Grade 1 Titanium Wire for Aerospace, Medical and Precision Uses

Grade 1 titanium wire may be considered for aerospace, medical and precision components when the material specification, dimensions, condition and service requirements match the intended design. No single grade guarantees performance across these different applications.

Start with the material and product form

Grade 1 is unalloyed titanium. The purchaser should specify wire diameter and tolerance, coil or straight length, surface, condition and the applicable material specification and edition. ASTM B863 covers titanium and titanium alloy wire, subject to the requirements of the ordered grade and edition.

Aerospace and precision fabrication

Aerospace projects may specify a separate material or process specification, traceability, inspections and component qualification. For precision forming, joining or electrical parts, define the drawing, service environment, process route and required tests. Validate a finished component rather than assuming a universal operating-temperature range, zero defects or a fixed corrosion rate from the grade alone.

Medical-device programs

ASTM F67 includes Grade 1 wire in its scope for manufacture of surgical implants. The device manufacturer must define the appropriate material standard and evaluate biological safety, processing residues, sterilization and the finished device. A raw wire grade does not guarantee allergy-free use or MRI safety.

Inquiry checklist

  • Grade, standard and edition, diameter, tolerance and condition.
  • Quantity, forming or joining requirements, surface and packaging.
  • Application conditions, traceability, material certificate and agreed tests.

Frequently asked questions

Does Grade 1 wire qualify an aerospace or medical component automatically?

No. The applicable material, process and finished-component requirements are determined by the project and its responsible manufacturer.

For material-standard context, read our ASTM F67 material and documentation guide. The manufacturer must evaluate the finished device separately.
