Grade 1 Titanium Foil for Precision Manufacturing
- Gr1 Titanium Foil

Grade 1 titanium foil may be considered for a precision component when its material condition, dimensions and surface meet the design. A grade name alone does not guarantee a particular tolerance, manufacturing yield, operating temperature or service life.
Material and order requirements
Grade 1 is unalloyed titanium, UNS R50250. ASTM B265 covers annealed titanium strip, sheet and plate, including Grade 1, within its scope. Confirm whether the ordered foil form and dimensions fall within the applicable edition, and specify thickness, width, tolerances, condition, finish and required certificate.
Mechanical results depend on the product and test conditions. Use the agreed specification and supplied-lot records where numerical properties are needed instead of applying a value from another thickness or condition.
Precision forming and surface
For cutting, stamping, bending or joining, identify the foil thickness, rolling direction, tooling, bend geometry and surface condition. Evaluate representative material for dimensional variation, cracking, edge defects and springback. Surface cleanliness, roughness and finish should be stated with their measurement and acceptance methods.
| Requirement | Information to agree |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | Thickness, width, tolerances, flatness and delivery form. |
| Fabrication | Forming, cutting or joining method and part-specific acceptance. |
| Surface | Finish, cleanliness, permitted defects and inspection method. |
| Documentation | Applicable standard and edition, lot identification and agreed tests. |
Service and qualification
For chemical service, evaluate the actual medium, temperature, contaminants, joints and exposure. For high- or low-temperature service, assess the actual loading, duration and material evidence. Neither a general corrosion description nor a material certificate establishes a universal operating range or component lifetime.
Medical-device and aerospace components require the responsible manufacturer to determine the applicable material, process and finished-part qualification requirements. Biological safety, clinical outcomes and regulatory approval cannot be inferred from Grade 1 alone.
Frequently asked questions
Can every Grade 1 foil be supplied to one fixed tolerance?
No. Confirm tolerance and measurement method for the requested dimensions.
Does a tensile certificate establish a finished part’s fatigue life?
No. Fatigue requires assessment under appropriate component loading and conditions.
