Grade 5 titanium rod specifications should be selected by the exact alloy, product form, material condition and intended use. ASTM, AMS, ISO and national designations can serve different purposes; similar alloy names do not automatically make specifications or certificates interchangeable.
Start with the material and form
Grade 5 is Ti-6Al-4V, UNS R56400. ASTM B348/B348M covers annealed titanium bars and billets, including Grade 5 within its scope. Agree the edition, diameter, tolerance, finish and condition, then verify chemistry, mechanical properties and other acceptance requirements against the contracted document.
AMS specifications may apply to particular aerospace material forms and conditions. Specify the complete designation and revision and confirm that the ordered product falls within its scope. An AMS designation is a specification reference, not proof of aerospace component approval.
Medical materials require a separate specification
ISO 5832-3 concerns wrought titanium 6-aluminium 4-vanadium alloy for surgical implants. Check the exact designation, product form, condition, edition and required records. Grade 5 and extra-low-interstitial material must not be treated as interchangeable solely because both contain titanium, aluminium and vanadium. Material conformance does not establish finished-device biocompatibility, MRI conditions or regulatory approval.
