Nickel 201 foil buyer’s guide. Nickel 201 (UNS N02201) is the low-carbon nickel grade included with Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) in ASTM B162 for rolled plate, sheet and strip. The distinction matters when a project requires controlled carbon content, but material choice still depends on process temperature, atmosphere, geometry, condition and verified lot results.
Use the correct product standard
The earlier version of this article cited ASTM B90 for Nickel 201 foil. ASTM B90 is a magnesium-alloy sheet and plate standard, so it is not the correct nickel foil reference. For rolled Nickel 201 sheet or strip supplied as foil, start with the applicable ASTM B162 edition and confirm that the ordered thickness and form are covered by the contract. State UNS N02201, thickness and tolerance, width, length or coil, condition, surface and edge requirements.
