Nickel 200 Foil: Specifications, Standards and Ordering
- Nickel 200 Foil

Nickel 200 foil is a thin nickel product identified by UNS N02200. To specify it, define the applicable product standard, thickness, width, condition, surface and required documentation. Confirm whether a requested foil form and dimensions fall within the selected specification and edition.
Nickel 200 and Nickel 201
Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 have different material designations: UNS N02200 and UNS N02201 respectively. Nickel 201 is the low-carbon grade. Do not substitute one for the other without agreeing the relevant chemical limits and application requirements. The certificate for the supplied lot should identify the material and reported tests.
Product standards and status
ASTM B162 covers nickel plate, sheet and strip. Check the contracted edition, grade, condition and dimensions for the intended foil order. A standard for nickel rod and bar does not automatically establish requirements for foil.
ISO 6208:1992 historically addressed nickel and nickel alloy plate, sheet and strip but has been withdrawn. Do not describe it as a current standard. If a customer contract specifies a historical edition, confirm the document status and contractual acceptance requirements before applying it. Other standards should be checked for the specific grade, form, edition and order; equivalence cannot be assumed from a shared grade name.
Dimensions and surface requirements
| Requirement | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Thickness and width | Nominal dimensions, tolerances, measurement and sampling method. |
| Condition | Delivery condition and any agreed processing or annealing requirement. |
| Surface | Finish, cleanliness, permitted defects and edge requirements. |
| Delivery | Coil or cut form, quantity, packaging and required certificate. |
Thickness tolerance and flatness depend on the order and measurement procedure; confirm achievable dimensions rather than applying a single tolerance to every foil.
Performance and use
Nickel 200 foil may be evaluated for conductive or chemical-process components. Electrical properties, mechanical behavior and corrosion performance depend on the material condition, test method and service environment. For alkaline service, define the concentration, temperature, contaminants, exposure and component design. A material grade does not guarantee corrosion life or suitability in every medium.
For high-temperature use, assess the actual temperature, load, environment and relevant evidence. A melting point alone does not establish long-term strength or oxidation performance. Compare Nickel 200 with titanium or another foil using the defined grades, product condition, thickness and application, rather than generic numbers from an unrelated specimen.
Frequently asked questions
Does ASTM B162 apply to every product called nickel foil?
Confirm the product form, dimensions, material grade, condition and contracted edition against the specification.
Is ISO 6208:1992 an active standard?
No. It has been withdrawn; review any contractual use of the historical edition separately.
Are Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 interchangeable?
No. Confirm the required grade and chemical requirements before any substitution.
