Material standard and order
ASTM B551/B551M covers zirconium and zirconium alloy strip, sheet and plate, including R60702, within its scope. Confirm the contracted edition and whether the required foil form, dimensions and condition fall within it. ASTM B550/B550M addresses bar and wire; its product-form requirements should not be substituted for a foil order.
Specify thickness, width, tolerance, surface, delivery form and condition, and request the agreed lot identification and material certificate. Verify numerical chemistry and mechanical requirements against the applicable edition and supplied-lot documents.
Assess corrosion for the actual medium
Zirconium may be considered for certain chemical environments, including some acid services. Performance depends on acid type, concentration, temperature, impurities, flow, aeration, fabrication and exposure. Hydrofluoric acid and fluoride-containing environments require particular caution; select the material only after assessment of the full service conditions. Do not assume that zirconium is suitable for every acid or alkali.

A melting point, density or generic corrosion rating does not determine the finished component’s allowable temperature or lifetime.
