What Are the Characteristics of Gr1 Titanium Bars: Strength, Corrosion Resistance, and Durability?

Gr1 Titanium Bars

Grade 1 titanium bar characteristics. Grade 1 / UNS R50250 is an unalloyed titanium bar grade. Strength, formability, corrosion behavior and durability must be interpreted for the ordered condition and the intended component, not from a single generic material description.

Material acceptance

ASTM B348 includes Grade 1 titanium bars and billets. State the edition, diameter, length, tolerance, delivery condition, surface and required heat/lot certificate. Compare reported test results with the contracted edition and drawing. A catalog purity percentage or nominal mechanical value should not be substituted for a supplied-lot record.

Corrosion and service-life boundaries

Titanium’s passive surface can be relevant to many environments, but service depends on medium chemistry, temperature, crevices, dissimilar-metal contact, load and maintenance. No unsupported “20-year seawater life” or universal resistance claim should be used as a design basis. Ask for application-specific compatibility evidence or representative tests when service risk is material.

Food, pharmaceutical and medical contexts

These applications may have separate cleanliness, traceability and regulatory requirements. A raw Grade 1 bar designation does not establish non-toxicity, finished-device biocompatibility or suitability for direct product contact. If material for surgical implant manufacture is required, evaluate ASTM F67 and the device manufacturer’s own controls.

Review the titanium rod category and send drawings, environment and documentation needs through a technical RFQ. Sources: ASTM B348 scope and ASTM F67 scope. Current supplier capacity must be confirmed in a dated quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Does Grade 1 titanium bar last 20 years in seawater?

Service life cannot be guaranteed by grade alone; assess the actual component and environment.

Does a bar certificate qualify a medical device?

No. Material and finished-device requirements are separate.
