Nickel 200 Foil ASTM B162 Inspection: Specification and Acceptance Guide

Nickel 200 Foil

Nickel 200 foil incoming inspection. Inspection begins with the purchase order, drawing and contracted material standard. ASTM B162 covers Nickel 200 / UNS N02200 plate, sheet and strip, but the buyer must also state the specific dimensions, condition, surface and documents needed for a foil component.

Three layers of acceptance

  1. Document review: confirm grade, standard edition, heat or lot identification, required chemistry and mechanical-test results on the material certificate.
  2. Physical inspection: check thickness, width, length or coil details, edge condition, surface and packaging against the order.
  3. Application-specific checks: perform only the supplementary cleanliness, conductivity, forming or corrosion tests required by the component specification.

Build a sampling plan before receipt

Agree sample count, measurement positions, instrument, acceptance rule and disposition of nonconforming material before delivery. A supplier’s generic inspection checklist cannot replace the buyer’s drawing. For thin foil, avoid using a single center-point thickness reading to represent an entire coil or sheet unless the agreed plan permits it.

Frequently asked questions

Does an ASTM B162 certificate replace dimensional inspection?

No. The receiving plan must verify ordered dimensions and any additional surface or component requirements.

What if an inspection item is not in the purchase order?

Agree the item, method and acceptance rule before delivery rather than implying it is automatically included.
